CLEARER WATER ANTRIM COAST HALF MARATHON ANNOUNCE THE TOM BOWDIDGE FOUNDATION AS A 2023 CHARITY PARTNER

Clearer Water Antrim Coast Half Marathon are pleased to announce The Tom Bowdidge Foundation as a charity partner for the event in 2023.

The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation was founded in 2014, in the memory of Tom who sadly died of esmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour and extensive peritoneal disease at the age of 19.

The foundation promotes the relief, care, well-being and rehabilitation of teenagers and young adults suffering from cancer, and their families. As well as carrying out research and publish any useful results into the causes and effects of cancer in teenagers and young adults.

To date The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation have donated £176,000 to provide emotional and practical support, £403,000 to develop targeted treatments for teenagers, and 23% of their funding has been used to create age appropriate environments in hospitals.

They also pleaded to give more than £250,000 to support research into a rare form of cancer called desmoplastic small round cell tumour (DSRCT) – a type of sarcoma that affects soft tissues in the body. The donation will fund researchers at The Institute of Cancer Research, London, who are dedicated to understanding DSRCT and other types of soft tissue sarcoma that affect young people.
