ANTRIM COAST HALF MARATHON PARTNERS WITH REFORESTATION NONPROFIT ONE TREE PLANTED
PRESS RELEASE 30.12.21
“One for One” Initiative Dedicated To Planting Trees Around The World
Antrim Coast Half Marathon, Ireland’s first World Athletics Elite Label running event, today announced a partnership with One Tree Planted that aims to plant thousands of trees for landscape restoration over the next decade. For every race entry purchased, Antrim Coast Half Marathon will plant one tree.
“Working with One Tree Planted is a great fit for Antrim Coast Half Marathon, which takes place on one of the most iconic roads in the world,” said ACHM co- race Director, Ruth McIlroy. “Sustainability is a major focus of the event, with many of our runners asking us to get behind green initiatives, so this partnership is a great way to give back and help the environment.”
The objectives of this new partnership include:
- Supporting global reforestation efforts
- Empowering runners with sustainable actions
- Raising awareness about the importance of ecosystem restoration
Planting trees is one of the best ways to combat the damaging effects of climate change. Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80 percent of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Trees also provide tremendous social impacts by providing jobs to over 1.6 billion people, empowering women in underdeveloped nations, and supporting communities devastated by environmental damage.
“We’re excited for the opportunity to work with the Antrim Coast Half Marathon on such an impactful project,” said One Tree Planted founder and Chief Environmental Strategist, Matt Hill. “We admire the Antrim Coast Half Marathon’s commitment to planting a tree for every entry sold. It’s a prime example of how mass participation events can make positive change for our planet.”
About Antrim Coast Half Marathon
The partnership is designed to be simple for runners to get involved in global reforestation. For every entry sold by Antrim Coast Half Marathon, the event will give $1 to One Tree Planted to plant one tree. The trees are planted by local partner organizations and community volunteers in areas where there has been deforestation. Antrim Coast Half Marathon will work with One Tree Planted to target the appropriate regions.
