Elite Runners Announced for the 2024 Antrim Coast Half Marathon

Larne, Antrim Coast, Northern Ireland – (31 May, 2024) –

The Antrim Coast Half Marathon is thrilled to announce the elite headline runners for this year’s event, taking place on Sunday, August 25, 2024. As one of the premier road races in the world, the Antrim Coast Half Marathon continues to attract top talent from around the globe. This year’s lineup of elite athletes is nothing short of spectacular, featuring world record holders, World medallists, and previous race winners.

Elite Women’s Field:

  1. Yalemzerf Yehualaw (24, Ethiopia) – With a personal best of 1:03:51 in the half marathon and 2:17:23 in the marathon, Yehualaw is the 2 x time champion of the Antrim Coast Half Marathon (2021, 2022) and the 2022 London Marathon winner. She also holds the UK all-comers record of 1:04:22 set in 2022 on the Antrim Coast.
  2. Mestawut Fikir (24, Ethiopia) – The 2023 Antrim Coast Half Marathon champion returns with a personal best of 1:06:44. She recently won the 2024 Paris Marathon, clocking 2:20:45.
  3. Vicoty Chepngeno (30, Kenya) – Chepngeno, with a half marathon personal best of 1:05:03 and a marathon best of 2:19:55, won the 2022 Houston Half Marathon and finished second at the 2024 Houston Marathon.
  4. Bosena Mulatie (22, Ethiopia) – Mulatie has a half marathon best of 1:05:46 and a marathon best of 2:26:59. She placed second in the 2024 Lisbon
    Marathon and third in the 2023 Istanbul Half Marathon.
  5. Loice Chemnung (27, Kenya) – With a half marathon best of 1:05:58, Chemnung won the 2024 Malaga Half Marathon and took second place at the
    2024 Paris 10km.
  6. Roza Dereje (27, Ethiopia) – Dereje, with a half marathon best of 1:06:01 and a marathon best of 2:18:30, finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.
  7. Degitu Azimeraw (25, Ethiopia) – Azimeraw has a half marathon best of 1:06:07 and a marathon best of 2:17:58. She won the 2024 Barcelona
  8. Marathon and was second at the 2021 London Marathon.
  9. Bekelech Gudeta (26, Ethiopia) – Gudeta, with a half marathon best of 1:06:35 and a marathon best of 2:22:54, claimed victories at the 2024 Xiamen
    Marathon, 2023 New Taipei City Marathon, and 2022 Prague Marathon.
  10. Mary Ngugi-Cooper (35, Kenya) – Ngugi-Cooper is a two-time medalist at the World Half Marathon Championships and a former African U20 champion. She has finished second and third at the Boston Marathon, with personal bests of 1:06:29 for the half marathon and 2:20:22 for the marathon.

Elite Men’s Field:

  1. Hillary Chepkwony (25, Kenya) – Chepkwony has a half marathon personal best of 58:53. He recently placed second at the 2024 Bengaluru 10km and won the 2023 Venloop Half Marathon.
  2. Milkesa Mengesha (24, Ethiopia) – Mengesha boasts a half marathon best of 58:58 and a marathon best of 2:05:29. He was the World Junior Cross
    Country Champion (U20) in 2019, finished third at the 2024 Houston Half Marathon, and won the 2023 Daegu Marathon.
  3. Vincent Ngetich (25, Kenya) – Ngetich has a half marathon personal best of 59:09 and a marathon best of 2:03:13. He placed third at the 2024 Tokyo Marathon and second at the 2023 Berlin Marathon.
  4. Alex Nzioka (20, Kenya) – Nzioka, with a sub-60 minutes debut in the half marathon, is a rising star aiming to make a strong impression at this year’s
    race.
  5. Dawit Wolde (32, Ethiopia) – Wolde, with a half marathon best of 59:58 and a marathon best of 2:03:48, finished third at the 2023 Valencia Marathon and the 2021 Rotterdam Marathon.
  6. Charles Matata (Kenya) – Matata, with a half marathon best of 1:00:05, won the 2024 Venloop Half Marathon and finished second at the 2023 New Delhi Half Marathon.

In addition to the stellar lineup of elite runners, the Antrim Coast Half Marathon is excited to welcome the Stars and Producers of the acclaimed documentary, Skid Row Marathon, who will be flying over from Los Angeles to participate in this year’s event. Their participation underscores the race’s growing international appeal and its commitment to inspiring stories of transformation through running.

With participants from 30 countries set to take part, the 2024 event will see a record number of entries, making it the most globally diverse and inclusive race in its history.
