Clearer Water Antrim Coast Half Marathon 2023 announce White Ribbon NI and Women’s Aid ABCLN as charity partners

Clearer Water Antrim Coast Half Marathon are delighted to announce that White Ribbon NI and Women’s Aid ABCLN are new charity partners for the 2023 event.

White Ribbon was formed in 1991 by a group of male students in Canada in response to the massacre of 14 female students. Its goal then, as it is today, was to send a message that violence against women in all its forms is unacceptable.

White Ribbon in Northern Ireland began as a champion within Women’s Aid ABCLN, meeting groups and individuals to educate them about violence against women and girls. Women’s Aid ABCLN provides confidential support, information and emergency accommodation for women and children affected by domestic abuse across Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey.

White Ribbon NI was launched in 2021 and its CEO Tahnee McCrory will join our other race ambassadors in participating in the half marathon.

Race director Ruth McIlroy said “As a female runner I recognize that I plan my run routes very differently from my husband and always must consider my safety. Some routes are out of bounds as I consider them too isolated, and there is my self-imposed winter curfew when I’m not happy to run alone in the dark.  Both White Ribbon NI and Women’s Aid ABCLN work hard to increase understanding and awareness about abuse against women and this can only lead to us all feeling safer wherever we go”.

Both charities will be participating in the half marathon and half marathon relay. Anyone who wishes to run for either charity please contact them on the links below:
