P&O Antrim Coast Half Marathon 2020 Coronavirus Update
The 2020 P&O Antrim Coast Half Marathon
Further to the P&O Antrim Coast Half Marathon’s previous update on the 24th May.
The race committee of the P&O Antrim Coast Half Marathon are still monitoring closely the developments relating to the spread of COVID-19 and noting the updates and advice given by the UK, Ireland, Northern Ireland Governments, the World Health Organisation, other UK public bodies and mass gathering events across Europe.
With that being said, we understand that runners are anxious to understand the latest developments to allow them to plan their training accordingly, and if they don’t feel the situation is right, to defer their entry to the 2021 race.
With recent positive developments, and in light of social distancing being reduced to 1 metre the race is still scheduled to go ahead on September 12 2020 with both elite and the mass race, this may change, but at present signs are good.
Subject to going ahead the Race committee will set out and email every competitor a comprehensive hygiene policy, based on international expertise.
Due to these hygiene guidelines the Half Marathon course will be changed, giving competitors more space on the course. The race will have different start and finish lines, with runners being started ingroups, at timed intervals.
Runners will also assemble in predetermined groups at designated holding areas.
Disinfection stations will also be set up both in the event area in general and along the course.
The primary school children’s energy points along the course have now been removed.
No open drinks or individual food offerings will be available in the finish area; instead all participants will receive a refueling package.
Other facilities which are usually on offer, such as massage and showers, will not be available.
On behalf of the race committee we would like to thank you, the runners, charities, sponsors and local communities for your continued understanding and we will next update you on latest developments at the end of July.
Best wishes from the P& O Antrim Coast Half Marathon Committee.
